Privacy Policy

1. Short version

Your voice is transcribed on your Mac. We do not upload your recordings or transcripts for dictation. We only collect the little we need to sell and license the app, and only with your consent where email/marketing is involved.

2. On-device speech

Morning captures microphone audio to run speech-to-text locally (Whisper / related on-device models). Audio and transcripts stay on your device unless you deliberately paste or send them in another app. We do not operate a cloud transcription service for Morning dictation.

3. What we collect

Depending on how you buy and activate Morning, we may process:

• License data: a one-way hash of your license key (used to check it) and an encrypted copy of the key so support can re-send it if you lose it, license id, issue/redemption timestamps, activation status.
• Device data for licensing: a hashed device identifier and optional device name so a license can be activated on one Mac, the time of its last license check-in (about weekly), and, for trials, the trial start/end time for that device.
• Optional email: only if you choose to share it, with a separate marketing opt-in.
• Payment data: processed by Stripe. We receive payment metadata (e.g. session/customer/payment ids, purchase status). We do not receive your full card number.
• Website operations metrics: Vercel Web Analytics collects aggregate website usage, such as page views and referrers, without cookies. We also record anonymous download/checkout funnel event counts. Dictation audio and transcripts are never included in website analytics.
• Support email: whatever you send to support@askmorning.com.
• Security operations: short-lived hashed IP rate-limit buckets and license audit timestamps help prevent abuse. We never log raw license keys or raw hardware identifiers.

4. Permissions on your Mac

Morning may ask macOS for Microphone (dictation), Accessibility (paste into other apps), and Bluetooth (headphone battery / connection in the notch). Those grants are controlled by macOS Settings and are not “accounts” with us.

5. How we use data

To deliver the app and license keys, prevent abuse (activation limits, revoked payments), provide updates, respond to support, and—only if you opt in—send product news. We do not sell personal information.

6. Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Contract (provide the license), legitimate interests (secure licensing, basic ops metrics), and consent (marketing email).

7. Retention

License and activation records: kept while the license may be used or as needed for fraud/accounting, then deleted or anonymized. Marketing email: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete. Support emails: ordinary inbox retention. Stripe retains payment records under its own policy.

8. Sharing

Infrastructure providers that process data on our instructions (e.g. Cloudflare for license API/hosting, Stripe for payments, email delivery if you opt in). No sale of personal data. We may disclose if required by law.

9. Your rights (GDPR/CCPA-style)

Access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction/objection where applicable, and withdraw marketing consent anytime. California residents may request access/deletion and opt out of “sale”/“sharing” (we do not sell). Email support@askmorning.com. We will not discriminate for exercising rights.

10. Children

Morning is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the local digital-consent age). We do not knowingly collect their data.

11. International transfers

If you are outside the United States, your data may be processed in the U.S. or where our providers operate, with appropriate safeguards where required.

12. Changes

We may update this policy; we will revise the date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice on askmorning.com when appropriate.
